APPEARANCE
Falconstone is a well-built, large-boned cat, with long, silky tufted fur. His coat is coloured in a tabby pattern consisting of thick, dark stripes on top of a grey-gold base, which fade into each other at the base of his tail to form a dark grey. The short, smooth fur about his muzzle and chin is a snowy white. He has a pronounced ruff of fur about his neck and chest, which he grooms meticulously in his free time to keep from tangling. Similarly, his tail is maintained in much the same manner, so as to remain lush and bushy. His large paws are well-suited for powerful swimming as well as traversing marshy ground. With pale yellow-green eyes and tall tufted ears, Falconstone cuts a striking, memorable figure.
PERSONALITY
Though he appears large and imposing, Falconstone is gentle and steady, with an air of good-natured kindness that often lingers about the corners of his eyes and a soft half-smile tugging at his mouth. He can protect and defend if the situation calls for it, but it takes a while to get him riled up enough to get there, and he'd rather diffuse the situation than fight his way out of it. He's just a little bit vain and likes to be clean and proper, but isn't too concerned about getting dirty - he'll just spend a little more time licking it out later. Falconstone will do what he's tasked to willingly and without complaint, as he believes that his duty is to his clan and therefore is very committed to ensuring he does his job as well as he can. He is a skilled fisher and delights in the water, and when his regular duties are completed Falconstone can often still be found bringing in extra fish for the clan. Every little bit counts, after all. He isn't the fastest or swiftest cat, and perhaps if you needed a message passed quickly across the territory, picking another cat would be a wiser decision. However, he's steadfastly determined and has impressive stamina, making him a strong candidate for guard or hunting duty.
HISTORY
Falconstone was born to two Riverclan warriors, Swiftstream and Stormhawk, the first born in a small litter of just himself and a little sister, Robinkit. Stormhawk and Swiftstream had been a pairing of congratulatory interest to much of the clan when they finally announced their relationship - many moons ago Stormhawk had already been a mature warrior, with many achievements under his paw and a respectable number of moons behind him, while Swiftpaw had been a bright young apprentice assigned to his tutelage. Throughout her apprenticeship it became clear that Swiftpaw and her mentor made a spectacular team together, with Swiftpaw often performing close to his skill level despite her young age and proving herself as his equal time and again. When the young female was finally given her warrior name Swiftstream realised she was falling for her mentor, and spent a very frustrating four seasons trying to get him to feel the same way. To the relief of many (for many of the clan members had of course noticed her valiant efforts over the past year) he began to return her feelings after a time, and a while later they announced their first litter.
Named for his striking black-and-tan coat as well as to carry on his father's line of avian-inspired names in the hopes that he would be sharp and fleet, Falconkit grew up happily and quite uneventfully. He was very close with his sister and though they tussled constantly he was quick to shield her smaller frame from all that threatened her. Falconkit became Falconpaw with little fanfare, as most apprentices do, and carried out his apprenticeship under the watchful eye of a stern, discerning mentor who cultivated in him a steady determination and long-suffering patience.
Falconpaw was given the warrior name Falconstone at the end of his six moons of training, after he had proven himself to be a steadfast and sturdy trainee. Though he had not turned out to be swift and agile like his parents had hoped, both his large frame and dependable attitude allowed him to be granted the name suffix "stone". Of course, now that his training was over and he was considered to be a fully-fledged warrior, the problems started.
After several moons, his father Stormhawk began to develop a blindness in both eyes. No one knew what caused it and it seemed to drift in and out at first - one day his vision would be relatively clear, the next day cloudy, and other days his eyes would be a nearly milky white. Still the condition continued to develop hesitantly with no predictable pattern until one fateful day while leading a border patrol, Stormhawk had failed to detect a crucial movement that turned out to be the beginning of an ambush. Most of the patrol survived, but Stormhawk did not.
The death of her partner left Swiftstream a shell of her former lively self, and Falconstone could do nothing but watch forlornly as his kind, cheerful mother began to waste away. He started to devote more of his time to doting on her and being by her side, knowing that his large size and purposeful step was painfully reminiscent of his father's own assured stature and stride. Though Swiftstream was hardly an old cat, she became weak and frail all the same, much of the purpose in her life taken away with Stormhawk's death. She remained the same for the rest of her days - or perhaps it should be said, she remained the same until the biting sickness descended.
It was many moons after Falconstone's father had passed away that the biting sickness began to arrive. By then he had himself become a seasoned warrior in his own right, always feeling his father's serene gaze watching and guiding him from the stars. One night Swiftstream began to shake with fever, and by that time the medicine cat had already become aware of the dreadful illness, himself also on his way becoming possessed by the life-taking disease. Falconstone was torn between risking his own life caring for her and accepting the inevitable, but his decision was soon made for him when it was announced that all of the afflicted would be exiled to live out their last days away from their home clans.
The morning of the Great March, Falconstone watched with great solemn eyes as his fragile, feeble mother made her way out of the camp on unsteady legs to her death. To be able to do nothing to help ease her last few days after being by her side for so long truly broke his heart. He stood vigil until his mother finally disappeared from sight, and then stood there yet longer, standing still and quiet until the day gave way to moonlight.
Falconstone was always a little more subdued after that. His sister, who had escaped the disease too, would occasionally keep an eye out for him, but the great male was never in any trouble - just a little more pensive, a little more wistful. He threw himself resolutely into helping the Clan rebuild, lending his strength around the camp and doing all he could to stay purposeful.
