HISTORY
(Numbers in parentheses mean age in moons)
Martenkit was the last kit born in a litter of four. His parents were an odd sort; the father, Mudfang, being only sixteen moons at the time of his birth and his mother, Palestorm, being twenty-seven. Many looked down upon the mother, for Palestorm befriending and becoming mates with her apprentice was a very unprofessional action. The duo, however, didn't let the negative remarks hinder their parenting abilities, and the mother had a smooth birth. Martenkit, along with his siblings--Russetkit, Auburnkit, and Gingerkit--were raised in near perfect environments. Never were they to get in trouble and fight, the siblings were became especially close. Their bonds would inevitably be challenged but it never was significantly up to their adulthoods.(0-5)
Martenkit soon turned into Martenpaw, only he was promoted one moon later than the rest of his siblings. He grew sick during the moon leading up to his apprenticeship and had to stay in the medicine cat den for longer than intended. Martenpaw wasn't bothered by the fact he was a moon late, but his siblings did tease him about it for a while. And what Martenpaw did while sick was more than pleasing for him to ignore the teasing. He met a kit named Egretkit during his moon residency in the medicine cat den. He was only a moon younger than him and they were promoted the same day. They became quick buddies and soon best friends only moons into their training.(6)
Martenpaw did well in most of his training; his hunting was excellent, and his fighting skills were also superb. Egretpaw was the quieter type and his skills rested upon hunting and tracking, of which rewarded him his full name Egretwhisker. Martenpaw, however, differed from any skilled based name. He was sarcastic with his superiors and always enjoyed having the last word. He never gave the impression of a spineless apprentice just following orders and actually asked questions regarding some commands. He became known for his witty remarks and frigid comments. But it wasn't all bad. He was creative and perceptive, ideas sprang up when others saw a bleak disaster. His mind worked endlessly, making it impossible for him to keep his mouth shut, and allowed him to be intelligent in other things besides the usual. He was finally given the name Martenthorn, just under a moon from his siblings.(7-14)
Martenthorn had a successful few moons after his warrior ceremony. He was allowed to mingle, perhaps even find a mate if he was brave enough. But as he grew older, he noticed the lack of feelings towards anyone his age. No one appealed to him. His siblings were already off discussing how infatuated they were with some of their peers, but Martenthorn seldom spoke with them. He was witty, but never with his personal feelings. So he stayed alone for some moons to come.(15-38)
Sadly, all life must go. It might be a very cliché thing to say, but Martenthorn knew it would happen eventually. His mother passed away of unknown causes. She was perfectly healthy before her sudden death, the medicine cat could do only so much to find out what had happened. In the end, his father grieved severly but picked himself up for another, better day. Her family grieved as well, for she had so many moons in front of her, and it tumbled away. Martenthorn's siblings were understandably quiet about it, they never connected so well with their mother.(27)
Father made a deadly mistake hunting for a bunny in the harshest greenleaf day. A fox appeared seemingly out of nowhere and almost devoured Mudfang. He was dragged to the medicine cat den, but blood ran out of his body in currents. He died right at the camp's entrance, no cat ever said their goodbyes. This hit hardest to the siblings, for their father was much closer to all of them. Martenthorn grew reserved as the days without his father dragged on. He still kept his wit, though, but not much of his charisma.(31)
And so life continued without much excitement. A few skirmishes along the borders, but never a full-fledged war. Martenthorn concentrated in his newly appointed apprentice, and once he trained her, it was on to another one. Clan life kept him preoccupied, and boredom festered underneath the surface.(38-50)
Behind the curtain of false strength, a scary sickness sprang on the unexpecting Shadowclanners. Martenthorn was absolutely afraid of the symptoms, and as more warriors showed signs, the more Martenthorn wanted them gone. He easily agreed with the idea of exiling the diseased victims of sickness but something changed his mind. All of his siblings showed the remarked signs of the sickness. With a heavy heart, Martenthorn saw them march away to agony, some place remote so they could never infect any others. Now, he is all alone, without a single family member in the clan. And as the boredom shows its face again, Martenthorn is bound to act out.(51-57)
