APPEARANCE
Leopardpaw is a slight, brown-furred tabby with black markings running up and down the length of her body. She has a splash of white fur around her chin, and her eyes are a pale greenish-yellow. With small, dainty paws and a shorter than average tail, many cats tend to underestimate her upon their first meeting. But, with sharp claws and vicious teeth, Leopardpaw is quick to set aside any questions about her strength and ferocity.
PERSONALITY
The first thing anyone notices about Leopardpaw is her fiery temper and sharp tongue. She is never one to back down from a challenge, and can often be heard boasting loudly to anyone unfortunate enough to be nearby. Headstrong and quick to jump to conclusions, it is nearly impossible to dissuade her once she has made up her mind. Of course, that usually means that she ends up biting off more than she can chew, as she finds it hard to understand that there are things she cannot accomplish on her own as of yet.
Most of her arrogance, however, is nothing more than an act, placed there to hide how she honestly feels about herself. Suffering from an inferiority complex as a result of her complicated relationship with her brother, Badgerpaw, Leopardpaw realizes that, for the most part, her bark is worse than her bite. But, ever a hard worker, she throws herself into every duty, focusing upon her task until she seemed like a completely different cat compared to her usual boisterous self, determined to become the best warrior in the Clan.
HISTORY
Leopardpaw was no stranger to competition. From birth, she had been locked in an ongoing struggle with her brother, Badgerpaw, who people always said had been born with all the natural talent that she lacked. Attracting attention as effortlessly as honey attracted flies, Badgerpaw was always the charismatic one, the one who charmed all of the cats from the Twolegplace to the Moonpool. And, she, in stark contrast, drove away many of her would-be friends with her loud, insistent attitude. Then, when they were made apprentices, while she struggled to perfect her hunter’s crouch, Badgerpaw was able to replicate it almost immediately, and was able to put it to good use soon after.
No matter what they fought over, Leopardpaw had always come in second to her brother. But, she was too stubborn to give up. Even though he was born a genius, she was born a hard worker, and she threw herself into her training, determined to best him yet. But, all of that screeched to a halt when the biting sickness struck. In what felt like a blink of an eye, both of her parents were gone, buried in the far outskirts of the territory, and so many of the Clan had been banished in the Great March. She had no one but Badgerpaw left.
But, her brother was no longer the same cat he had been before the epidemic. While once his every action was calculated, completely elegant and yet so offhanded that it appeared natural, he had lost much of his previous finesse. Unsettled by his parents’ deaths and having lost so many of his friends, he receded into himself, now barely a former husk of the self-assured youngster he had once been.
And, with Badgerpaw in no state to oppose her, Leopardpaw was finally the undisputed victor. But, as she turned to bask in her spoils, she came face-to-face with the harsh reality that so much of what she had been in constant odds with Badgerpaw over were now gone. Their parents spent their days in Starclan, in another realm never to bestow upon her their affections. The Clan had been so devastated with their heavy losses that it was almost unable to function, and no one was in the mood to humor her. Every cat spent dawn till dusk hunting and patrolling and rebuilding. Every paw was busy until the cats all but collapsed in their dens at night, and Leopardpaw was struck with resentment and bitter fury.
She hated her brother. For her entire life, she had wanted what he had; she had worked hard for a chance at what he enjoyed in a daily basis! Now that her chance was here, however, all the thing she had wanted were gone, and she needed someone to blame. Seeking out her brother in a fit of rage, she was intent on taking her frustration out on his pelt, to score long lines of anger into his skin. Having found him helping rebuild the warriors’ den, she had approached him, pelt bristling as she snarled a challenge. But, as soon as he turned around and met her gaze, all of her rage slowly melted away, shaking itself free of her small body and slipping away silently without another word. Her supposedly perfect brother, the one who was always so certain, so heavily praised, stood there with dull, lifeless eyes, a silent helplessness burning within.
It was in that moment that Leopardpaw had realized how selfish she had been. In light of everything that had happened, with everyone that had suffered, she had always thought of herself and herself alone. While her brother, so obviously broken by everything that had happened, dedicated himself to the Clan, she had been sulking over the fact that the little things she had longed for like a kit were no longer available. And, like a brat, she had turned on someone who didn’t deserve it, throwing a temper tantrum as though she were, once again, four moons old. Knocked off balance by a wave of shame and guilt, Leopardpaw left her brother without a word, seriously rethinking herself and her actions.
